Deputy Chief Coroner Brigitte Windley has determined Mr Tarrant will retain interested party status in respect of Issue 10.
Mr Tarrant’s conduct is likely to be called into question in the course of the Second Phase Inquiry in relation to Issue 10 and, as such, paragraph (c) of the Act’s definition of interested party is satisfied.

The Second Phase Inquest into Issue 10 is scheduled to commence 7 October at the Christchurch Law Courts. Issue 10 will examine several matters relating to firearms licensing processes.
20 June 2024
The First Phase inquest will resume 5-13 August 2024 at the Christchurch Law Courts to complete evidence relating to Issue 13 – the emergency exit door at Masjid an-Nur.
29 May 2024
The First Phase inquest to hear evidence on Issue 13 was adjourned on 29 May 2024 and will resume on 5 August 2024.
13 March 2024
The First Phase inquest will resume sometime between 20-31 May 2024 at the Christchurch Law Courts to hear evidence relating to Issue 13 – the emergency exit door at Masjid an-Nur. This was adjourned part heard at the hearing last year.
15 December 2023
The First Phase Coronial Inquest into the Christchurch Masjidain Attack was adjourned on 15 December 2023. Deputy Chief Coroner Brigitte Windley reserved her findings, which are expected in 2024.
The Inquest examined 10 of 13 issues. Whether an inquest hearing will be held as part of the Inquiry into the remaining three issues is yet to be determined.

The First Phase Coronial Inquest into the Christchurch Masjidain Attack will commence on 24 October 2023 at the Christchurch Law Courts, Coroner Brigitte Windley has confirmed.

The Coroner has decided to adjourn the First Phase Coronial Inquest hearing scheduled to begin on 15 May 2023 to a date later this year.

Upcoming Interlocutory Hearing
A hearing on an application seeking to replace Counsel appointed to assist the Inquiry in the Masjidain Attack Coronial Inquiry will take place via audio visual link on 13 October 2022.
The purpose of the hearing is to hear any further submissions on the application which has been brought by counsel representing some of the Interested Parties. The application does not relate to any of the substantive issues for the Inquiry as decided in the April 2022 Scope Decision.
Interested Parties will be receiving separate information on how they may attend.
